ISAIAH PHILIP
Isaiah Philip is a contemporary Nigerian artist from Ebonyi State, currently based in Detroit, Michigan. He is pursuing his Master of Fine Arts in Painting at Wayne State University, where he also serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Foundational Drawing.Working across oil, acrylic, charcoal, and mixed media, Isaiah’s practice merges hyper-realism with conceptual, figurative, and abstract elements. His work explores themes of portraiture, Black identity, and African culture, reflecting both his Nigerian heritage and his experiences in the diaspora. By layering tradition with contemporary perspectives, his art engages questions of history, belonging, and cultural continuity.Currently, Isaiah is expanding his practice through experimentation with diverse mediums and surfaces, pushing the boundaries of portraiture as both personal expression and cultural documentation. Building his career between Nigeria and the United States, he continues to create works that honor African traditions while contributing to the global discourse of contemporary art.
